channel keys on a TV are useless when you have to have a set-top box. Not only a Sisyphean task but also largely a pointless one, as an end-user with multiple remotes uses on a fraction of the keys on each individual one : e.g. It seems to me a Sisyphean task to want to cover all the IR remotes and keep the coverage up to date. To date, your NEEO users are probably mostly techies and they are the ones who are most likely to have oddball IR devices, including older devices for which the brand (sometimes private label) may no longer even exists. I am the founder of CBCC Domotique, creator and maker of the Swiid Z-Wave devices and I would like to join - on a personal basis - the long queue of users requesting an IR learn mode for the NEEO and to take serious issue with Raphael's arguments supporting his statement that "IR learning should be the last resort". This way you will have some IR learning but time after time the necessity will eliminate itself.

of their unit (I had to pull the devices out of the shelf myself to read exact model of TV - which was not found - and BluRay/cabletuner -which does not work)

This would btw also help inc ases people do not know the exact model no. If there are iterations of one device that may use different codes the troubleshhott can offer the variations reported by the customer base.

Device is found but not working as expected (Samsung BD-F6900 in my case), launch the troubleshoot from device which brings up the button set - press the button that is not working, then learn the code froom IR and upload - next time the device will be troubleshot. This means the more poular a device is, the sooner you will have it integrated.Ģ. At least you can look up the set of commands and next time someone wants to add this device you can ask to add some keys that are not known yet.

if nothing is found proceed with requesting button description and learn the keys or just allow to break off and upload a request - you already know the device name and basic instrcuctions through the user which can get you started to find the full code for that device. then volume up/down, channel up down this should be enough to see if a matching device is in the database and suggest the hits. EG one types in a device and it is not found: You could launch a input screen which asks to press the power on, then power off (if it's a stupid device you would have to press the toggle for on and off). If we could "upload" IR codes via the learning feature it would help Andy to squash bugs and add new devices on the fly woithout communication interaction.ġ. You can accept backers (currently all members of this community to deliberately join a program or give them a IR input test code. Why not take the backing community as a tool to help to get NEEO over the beta status it's currently in and improve the database? IR learning is already integrated but not unlocked. Raphael I understand you prefer native database support over IR learning, however as we have seen, it does not work reliably for all devices and Andy and the team will have all their hands and heads full to keep up with the requests now that more and more devices end up with backers and pre orders. We will unlock the IR receiver as well but as said above - we really want it to be the last resort and it should NOT be what most people use. There we simply hundreds of things on our developers plate that we priorities because they were more relevant for the foundation of the product and the stability and security. I hope this gives you some good background info of why and how it's done.

We want the entire community to benefit from quality drivers so we love working with you to make it perfectly working for you but also for anyone else who has that device. We deeply believe the learning capability should really just be the last resort and we would only want some of you to use it for really weird products no one else has )Ĥ. We completely profile the devices with all necessary timings, physical inputs etc.

We like the fact that the driver team does things for you - so it's convenient and the integration is much deeper that just learning codes. We knew we already have a working solution to get all IR gear supported, with the large database we have built, with the awesome and fast service the driver team provides and the live IR testing functionality that allows support like not seen on any product in the industry.Ģ. I will explain why we have prioritised other functions over this:ġ. Of corse we will make this feature available in a future firmware release. I absolutely understand where this question is coming from. Here is the story: The brain does have he capability to capture infrared codes, it's not exposed in the UI though at this point. I'm pinning this here so you don't have to search trough all the scattered pieces of information:
